In its last days as a public house the Ram (above) down Wide Bargate was renamed the Aardvark for a while.

The building above, number 7 South End, and now a private house called Quay side, was once a pub called the Alma.

The Angel Inn, Market Place.

Named Angel for its closeness to the old Angel pub and Foxe because John Foxe the Martyrologist was born in a house on the site.

  2. Great collection. I used to live at 142 Windsor Bank which was called the Old Blue Anchor. It was the Blue Anchor Docks pub of old. It is now 3 terraced houses on the corner of mount bridge but the original size is easily made out :)

  5. Hi, I stumbled across your article when researching 82 High Street and saw that there used be a pub called The Boat there.
    I wonder if you know the date or source of the photo of the newsagents shown above?
    My grandfather owned these premises as a newsagents in the 60's and early 70's, but the name over the door is not his, so the photo must be either side of those years
